Who is Vicki K

Who is Vicki K

Background & Specialties

I grew up in a super tiny sugarcane processing town of South Johnstone in Far North Queensland, Australia, there were about 125 houses, 14 of us in my final year of Primary School and it always rains.

I am a photographic artist based in North Queensland, engaging in Botanical Photography with a focus on colour psychology. My practice delves into the intriguing nexus of nature, humans, colour, and flowers, capturing their essence through the lens of macro photography. By exploring the profound connection between humans and nature, I aim to illuminate the conscious and subconscious influence of nature's hues on our emotions. Through my floral compositions, I interconnect elements of nature, art, mood, memory, and place, allowing viewers to experience the profound power of colours and flowers intertwining to evoke emotions and rekindle our innate bond with the natural world.

The Shop

Wall Art For Your Mood was created to bring contemporary and unique art to your walls with a focus on colour and botanical fine art.

Let me welcome you into my world garden and share with you the enjoyment, wonder, feelings and motivations that the colours of artwork can bring and the moods we can create in your personal environment.

Each person’s experience of the world is unique, just as each image you are drawn to is unique to you and the feelings it brings out.

Each colour in nature influences our minds and mindset e.g. green stimulates a growth mindset, and red can make us feel powerful, and you'll find the images I have on offer for you are all categorised in their dominant colours.

Colour has a profound impact on our mood and well-being. Let me help you choose the perfect wall art to create the atmosphere you want, need, or desire in your space. By understanding the influence of each colour, you can take control of your environment and enhance your mood in a way that truly resonates with you.

What I'm Working On

I engage in macro botanical photography, deeply rooted in exploring colour, emotion, and the human experience. My artistic journey delves into the intricate interplay between nature and human emotion, emphasising the evocative power of flowers and their hues.

My qualifications stem from academic study and a rich tapestry of influences from diverse artists in botanical artistry, colour theory, philosophy and emotional expression. This multifaceted inspiration fuels my creative process, enabling me to approach my work with a unique perspective transcending the replication of nature. I strive to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection in my viewers, inviting them to see the world through a lens that highlights the profound relationship between art, nature, and emotion.

In my photography, I focus on capturing the ephemeral beauty of flowers, using their natural forms and vibrant colours to evoke memories and emotions. My work is not just about botanical accuracy; it's about freedom—freedom from the constraints of detailed botanical knowledge and freedom for viewers to bring their own interpretations and experiences to the artwork. This freedom fosters a dialogue between the viewer and the natural world, where each piece of art becomes a mirror reflecting their unique perspectives and emotional landscapes.

I aim positively contribute to our psychological well-being with artwork that can have practical applications in interior design that leverage the psychological well-being that colours and natural elements can bring to a space. Through my lens, I aim to enhance my understanding of the impact of flowers and colour on human experiences, making my work visually appealing, emotionally resonant, and beneficial for mental health.

In essence, my photography celebrates the imperfect, the transient, and the deeply emotional aspects of our existence. It is a testament to the power of art to influence perception, evoke emotion, and foster a deeper connection with the world around us.

Explaining the Quality & Detail of the Wall Art

To create the highest quality Archival Fine Art print, four factors come into play - resolution, ink, paper, and printer type.

To create a high-quality print, the camera used must be able to do so with a high level of resolution. To compare, most digital photos are recorded at a resolution of 72 DPI on the screen, or “dots per inch,” and the image file of an art print needs to be at least 300 DPI, because the more dots of colour that can be printed in a small area, the more detailed the final image will appear.

When ink is called “archival”, it means its been designed specifically to be resistant to weathering and fading beyond 100 years. This is typically achieved using inks that are pigment-based instead of dye-based and used on paper designated as archival.

For a print to be classified as a Fine Art Print the paper used to print on must be museum-grade. This essentially means it's of archival quality and will last 75-100 years if cared for properly

The above is the method we use here at Vicki K Photography, which we also refer to as Giclée (zhee-KLAY) meaning - fine art digital prints made on inkjet printers.

However, if you purchase a Poster Print you will find that these artworks are not printed using the Fine Art Archival Giclee method, and are available at a lower price point, these prints are still expected to last 25 – 50+ years without fading given the environment they are kept in.
